This is an exciting role enabling progress against our advancing sustainability goal and driving improvements in our sustainability reporting and disclosures to meet the ever-growing needs of our internal and external stakeholders and add value. You will report into the Head of ESG Data & Sustainability Reporting, within the Group ESG team, and be part of a small, newly formed team responsible for ESG data, analytics, governance and sustainability modelling and reporting.

Who we’re looking for

We’re seeking an individual with strong experience and skills in sustainability strategy, data and analytics, and aligning to / reporting against external sustainability frameworks and standards. If you think you have the right mix of skills, experience and passion, please get in touch.

This is a broad sustainability role, with global exposure and significant opportunities to make an impact across RS Group. Here’s a taster of what you’ll lead:

  • Net Zero plan – guide ESG analyst to develop detailed net zero trajectory, targets (short, medium and long; site and initiative level) and annual performance reporting against these. Prepare content to communicate plans and progress to internal and external stakeholders in a clear, simple and compelling way.
  • Scope 3 – guide ESG analyst to develop Scope 3 emissions methodologies, data collection, annual reporting, target setting and action plans, focused on RS’ material emissions categories (products, suppliers and logistics)
  • SBTi – lead re-baselining, future target development and verification of climate targets with SBTi
  • TCFD – project manage internal action plan, climate-scenario modelling (with ESG analyst and group financial control), support development of disclosure content and audit sign off.
  • CDP – lead annual CDP submission, project managing inputs for internal stakeholder leads, managing relationship with CDP and moving us to an A grade leadership level
  • Green finance – lead target setting, performance monitoring and reporting for Sustainability Linked Loan
  • Emerging sustainability compliance – develop strategy and disclosure content for EU / UK Taxonomy and sustainability standards within CSRD and ISSB
  • Acquisitions – lead sustainability data and reporting integration plan for acquisitions and advise the ESG programme management team on development of sustainability action plans
  • Governance – continue to develop internal environmental reporting manual and basis of reporting for sustainability KPIs
  • Assurance & data verification – lead annual ESG assurance programme for material sustainability metrics, with internal stakeholders, site audits, external assurers and auditors etc, ensuring this meets the latest CSRD requirements
  • Customer carbon reporting – develop methodology for the new customer carbon reporting proposition and project manage other key stakeholders to develop a customer carbon reporting solution.
  • Customer sustainability lead – be a credible sustainability lead with customers, representing RS at meetings, events, answering questionnaires and supporting bids and tenders.
  • Carbon offset strategy – lead development and execution of 2030 carbon offset strategy, select partner and projects for net zero strategy, events and RS marketing initiatives

What we are looking for from you:

  • Deep sustainability experience (sustainability strategy, target setting, internal performance reporting, alignment / reporting for external sustainability standards and frameworks – ideally with a relevant academic qualification
  • Experience with carbon emissions accounting
  • Experience aligning to and preparing external disclosures for leading sustainability frameworks e.g. GHG protocol, SECR, CDP, SBTi, TCFD, EU Taxonomy etc. with ability to simplify and distil, adopt a strict materiality and business-led approach to compliance, improving reporting rigour and increasing ratings
  • Stakeholder management skills with ability to work with stakeholders across various workstreams to drive business outcomes and confident to engage with internal and external stakeholders on sustainability topics
  • Strong written, analytical, data and reporting skills with high attention to detail
  • Able to distil complex ESG content or data into easily understood concepts and impactful stakeholder ESG reports.
  • Self-motivated with a positive can-do attitude and a team player
  • Highly structured, thoughtful individual with ability to deliver accurately and timely under tight deadlines
  • Project and time management skills and can operate in an environment of high workflow and ambiguity
  • Proactive attitude towards future development – eager to progress and invest in own future and development
