We provide a definitive range of services to the UK building and construction industry covering civil & structural engineering, building & quantity surveying, clerk of works, project management, employers agent, architecture, mechanical & electrical engineering, sustainability, building information modelling, development monitoring, expert witness, fire consultancy, party wall and health & safety.

Position:

  • To provide support to the group in day-to-day activities and client services.
  • Apply existing experience and develop additional learning ‘on the job’ by shadowing more senior members of the group and taking responsibility for day-to-day tasks depending on existing experience, competency, and confidence (with suitable support/training from senior members within the group)
  • To continue further academic and technical training in terms of a post graduate degree, CPDs, professional qualifications or similar, towards full chartered qualification. Apply relevant further training to day-to-day work.
  • To gain knowledge and experience to achieve relevant qualifications. It is expected that a member of staff at this level will understand the basics of the group’s services and have a high-level understanding of the higher detail in terms of what the group does and how the group makes fees.

Duties:

  • Shadow senior team members at project meetings and take lead in discussion areas related to level of competency.
  • Independently prepare presentation of sustainability proposals.
  • Prepare project assessments (Part L, Part O, BREEAM, HQM, Circular Economy, Whole Life Carbon etc).
  • Prepare building physics modelling and overheating simulations.
  • Prepare technical reports and planning documentation.
  • Undertake the technical review of third-party design information.
  • Shadow senior team members at various surveys and assist with preparation of resultant report.
  • Attend and organise industry CPDs.
  • Attend and participate in internal CPDs.
  • Undertake various admin/clerical tasks with regards to day-to-day project admin and under the direction of senior team member(s).
  • Assist with project filing to ensure aligned with Plexus filing system and QA processes generally.
  • Mentor junior members of the team in relation to on-boarding and day-to-day activities.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Hold an academic qualification in a related subject (Environmental Engineering)
  • Registered member of CIBSE (or similar) with progression of the assessment towards Professional Competence
  • Hold current UK driving licence

Skills:

  • Familiar with forms of building construction and able to research and find out more when not
  • Able to produce written reports in good English and where appropriate use technical language
  • Proficient in the use of basic software (word, excel, MS Project etc.)
  • Become proficient in use of internal software (Plexus, Bob etc)
  • Proficient in the use of industry modelling software (IES VE, Elmhurst, OneClick)
  • Able to work without supervision but provide continual feedback to line manager

Knowledge:

  • A good knowledge of low carbon technologies and sustainable design approaches
  • A good knowledge of sustainability assessments (BREEAM, HQM etc.)
  • A good knowledge of national and local sustainability energy policy, Building Regulations and British Standards
  • Intermediate level consultant would have been expected to have undertaken a full project from design stage to handover
  • A good understanding of the services of calfordseaden, the 6 ‘values’, and how we earn and charge fees and how we operate as a business
