Overview
We’re looking for a National Sustainability Manager to work on helping us achieve net zero emissions! The opportunity is an 18-month contract as a maternity cover and reports into a National Real Estate Director who you’ll be working with to deliver our ambitious Global Sustainability Strategy.
Your New Role:
- Leading efforts to help ALDI achieve and report progress towards our Net Zero Targets, ensuring alignment with the international company’s goals.
- Implementing impactful energy and emissions reduction projects within the National Real Estate department.
- Analysing the energy and carbon footprint of real estate projects to support ALDI’s sustainability and carbon reporting requirements.
- Driving the implementation and tracking progress against ALDIs water strategy, ensuring efficiency and compliance. This also includes the rollout of automated meter reader installation across the GB Store estate.
- Overseeing ALDI’s utility management, including energy forecasting, billing and supplier management.
- Coordinating and advancing ALDI GB & IE’s Real Estate Sustainability trajectory, supporting long-term environmental strategies.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation and proposing initiatives to enhance ALDI’s sustainability portfolio, such as Private Power.
- Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
- Managing ALDI’s solar revenue portfolio, ensuring effective oversight and financial performance.
- Reviewing embodied carbon reduction opportunities as part of a wider forum and improving the accuracy of reporting to ensure comprehensive assessments.
- Supporting the National Real Estate Director with the delivery of projects to reduce Aldi’s operational environmental impact.
- Leading projects to deliver energy, carbon, and water reduction across the business.
- Manage the relationship with external consultants who support Aldi with energy and water management.
- Set goals and targets for each project and the team.
- Research and propose carbon reduction, energy & water efficiency technologies to provide the business with a commercial advantage, achieve cost saving targets and reduce its environmental impact.
- Tailor communication of complex information in a clear way that is relevant for the audience.
- Positively influence multiple levels of the business to continue to consider sustainability in their decision making.
- Proactively develop own knowledge of topics, demonstrating initiative and suggesting ways of reducing operational carbon emissions, water and energy use.
- Monitor competitor activity in the relevant areas of Sustainability.
- Maximise external communication opportunities by working with our Customer Interaction Teams.
About You:
- Degree qualification (or equivalent) in a sustainability or environment related topic.
- Proven relevant experience in a sustainability related role.
- Experience delivering impactful Sustainability related projects or reports, preferably in the topic areas of energy or carbon.
- Experience with energy or carbon data analysis.
- Comfortable with processing large data sets.
- Experience with Power Purchase Agreements.
- Knowledge of embodied carbon software such as One Click LCA.
- Experience with colleague engagement or behaviour change programmes.
- Experience developing business cases.
- Able to positively influence stakeholders to gain buy-in for Sustainability initiatives.
- Autonomous and able to deliver efficient project management.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to present to internal and external audiences in a simple and meaningful way.
- Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to deliver concise and clear briefing papers.
- Exceptional analytical skills and comfortable processing large volumes of data to track emissions and consumption.
- Detail-orientated and curious.
- Organised and able to plan ahead and prioritise your own workload and stakeholders’.
- A team player and able to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
- Willing to be flexible and able to work to tight deadlines when necessary.
- Enjoys working as part of a team and supporting colleagues.
- A champion of Sustainability who will support us to take the topic even further within Aldi.
What You’ll Get in Return:
- Salary from £61,985 rising to £95,655
